If you think a number is wrong
Tell us. This is the most useful email we get, and we would rather hear it than not. Every confirmed fix lands as a test case before it lands as a fix, so the same error cannot come back in a later version.
Include as much of this as you can:
- The exact values you entered, and in what order
- Which solver or tab you were in
- What the App showed, and what you expected instead
- Where your expected figure comes from — a table, a text, a framing square, a rule of thumb
- Your display resolution setting, and the app version from Settings
A screenshot covers most of that in one go. If you use "show the math" to expand the result, the screenshot will include the formula we applied, which usually tells us immediately whether the disagreement is in the arithmetic, the method, or a constant.
Common questions
How do I restore a purchase on a new phone?
Install Sixteenths, open Settings, and tap Restore purchases. Sign in to the same App Store or Google Play account you bought it with — that is the only thing the restore depends on. There is no Sixteenths account, no password and no email to look up.
If the restore does not bring your unlock back, that is a bug on our side rather than something you did wrong. Email us and we will sort it out.
What happens when the 14-day trial ends?
The App keeps working. On day 15 you will see one dismissible sheet explaining the options, and after that the free core continues permanently: all feet-inch-fraction arithmetic, the tape, unit conversion, basic area and volume, board feet, and the common rafter. No ads, no expiry, no nagging.
Everything you saved during the trial stays on your device and stays readable. Nothing is deleted and nothing is held hostage.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No to both. There is no sign-up, and the calculator has no network code in it — it works the same in a basement, in a lift shaft or in airplane mode. The only time the App needs a connection is the moment you buy or restore the unlock, because that goes through the store.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple and Google, not by us — we never receive your payment, so we have no way to return it.
On iOS, use reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, use the Google Play order history, or Play's refund request form. If a request is refused and you think it shouldn't have been, tell us and we will back you up with the store.
Which code rulesets does the stair check use?
IRC 2021, IRC 2024, or a local amendment you configure yourself. Every row of the code report names the ruleset in force, the actual value, the required value and the section number — including rows that pass.
This is a geometric check of what you entered. It is not a code review and it does not replace your building official, whose determination governs. Codes are amended locally, so check the edition in force where you are working. See Terms, section 7.
A material constant doesn't match my supplier. Can I change it?
Yes, and the override sticks. Open the constant, read its source and the date it was retrieved, and enter your own figure. The engine guarantees an override always wins, and your correction survives a relaunch.
If you think our figure is wrong rather than just different from your supplier's, please tell us where yours comes from — we will check the source and correct it for everyone.
How do I get a tape or a material list off the phone?
Use the export action in the tape or the project. Tapes export as CSV or PDF, and cut lists, material lists and code reports export as PDF. The file is produced on the device and handed to the normal system share sheet, so you can mail it, message it, or save it wherever you like.
CSV carries the full stored precision rather than the display rounding — the one place the unrounded value is deliberately surfaced. Every export records the app version, the ruleset version and the constants version, so a document that outlives its assumptions still says what they were.
Why does Android mention modifying system settings?
That permission drives screen brightness for the outdoor high-contrast theme, and nothing else. Sixteenths does not draw over other apps and changes no other system setting. The full list of permissions and what each one is for is in the Privacy Policy, section 7.
What data do you collect about me?
None. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and your calculations never leave your device. The only thing that goes anywhere is an anonymous purchase record when you buy the unlock, so that it can be restored later.
The Privacy Policy spells out every case in detail.
I lost my work / I changed phones and my projects are gone
Your projects live on the device, so they move with your device backup — iCloud Backup on iOS, Google backup on Android — provided that backup was switched on before the old phone was wiped. We hold no copy of your work and cannot recover it for you, which is the flip side of never collecting it in the first place.
If you have work you cannot afford to lose, export it. A PDF or CSV in your email is the most durable backup there is.
Accessibility
The App respects your system text size and reduced-motion setting, and ships a high-contrast outdoor theme. If something is hard to use with a screen reader, at a large text size, or in gloves, tell us — that is a bug, and we would like to know about it.
